Brazil’s president, Jair Bolsonaro, threatened to beat up a reporter after asking about payments to his wife’s bank account.

The aide, Fabricio Queiroz, had deposited the money between 2011 and 2018. He was an aide to now Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the president’s eldest son when he was a deputy in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
He is under arrest in an investigation into bank deposits that took place at that time, amounting to 1.2 million riyals (£163,000).
Queiroz and Flavio Bolsonaro also face an investigation into a scheme that allegedly defrauded public servants’ salaries in the years before Jair Bolsonaro took office in January 2019.
In response to Bolsonaro’s outburst, O Globo newspaper issued a statement condemning his “assault” of a journalist who was “doing a job in a professional manner”.
“Such intimidation” shows that Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro does not recognize the duty of a public servant… to be accountable to the public, the statement said.
