Xbox One Survival is now free for Gold subscribers

It’s the first of the new month, in this case November, which means Xbox Live Gold subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X have a new “free” game to download and play via Games With Gold. As you know, the subscription service no longer releases Xbox 360 games nor original Xbox games, which means that subscribers no longer get four games a month, but two. One of these games became free on the first day of the month, and the other in the middle of the month.

The game that was available today is Windbound, an adventure game with both RPG and survival elements. Developed by 5 Lives Studios and published by Deep Silver, it was released in 2020 with a mixed reception. On Xbox One specifically, the game has 65 on Metacritic.

The official description of Windbound reads: “A ship crashed alone on an uncharted island, explore and adapt perilous land and seas and sail them to survive.” As Kara, you are a warrior, trapped at sea in a raging storm, turning away from your tribe. Thrown out of your boat at the mercy of turbulent waters, thrown on the shores of forbidden islands, a mysterious paradise. With no boat, food or tools, only will and skill to survive, discover the rich resources of this beautiful island. Create tools and weapons to hunt and defend yourself against nature itself with its wild and imaginary creatures. As you explore more islands and ruins scattered across their lands, secrets of the past and glimpses of the future are revealed. Uncover the mystery behind them all and you may find more than just your way home.”

Windbound is free with Games With Gold to Xbox Live Gold subscribers now through October 31. After October 31, it will return to its normal price of $19.99. As long as you maintain an active Xbox Live Gold subscription, the game remains yours, but if your subscription expires, you will lose access to the game until you subscribe back up.
