Johnny Depp’s fame exploded when he played the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. But behind the scenes of the sequel, 2006’s Dead Man’s Chest, there was a certain moment that left Depp deeply uncomfortable.
The awkward sequence came when Depp’s character, Jack Sparrow, was kissed by Keira Knightley’s character, Elizabeth Swann.
The actor, who is 22 years younger than Knightley, admitted the moment left him feeling very uncomfortable. And it was all because of the young age of the British actress at that time.
He later said, “Any scene like that when you’re doing that kind of thing, it’s always incredibly awkward, especially after I met Keira when she was 17.”
During the filming of Dead Man’s Chest, Keira was 21 years old, while Depp was 42. However, he found a way to struggle through the scene.
“No matter what, it’s always awkward,” Depp said, “so you kind of underestimate him.”
He said Knightley was a “good sport” in the scene, despite the age difference and how awkward they both might feel.
The Edward Scissorhands star added, “We kind of did what we had to do. That’s the job.”
However, Knightley wasn’t embarrassed about it at all. She had a completely different opinion of how things turned out.

Knightley laughed: “I couldn’t have asked for a better kissing scene with Johnny Depp in reality. I think my 14-year-old self was yelling with pleasure.”
She also referenced her on-screen relationship with Orlando Bloom’s character, Will Turner, with whom she has endured several romantic scenes throughout the pirate trilogy.
“I have Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and I accept both of them,” she said. “It’s great! It was great! What more could a girl ask for?”

Knightley laughed: “I couldn’t have asked for a better kissing scene with Johnny Depp in reality. I think my 14-year-old self was yelling with pleasure.”
She also referenced her on-screen relationship with Orlando Bloom’s character, Will Turner, with whom she has endured several romantic scenes throughout the pirate trilogy.
“I have Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and I accept both of them,” she said. “It’s great! It was great! What more could a girl ask for?”
Knightley later spoke fondly of Depp’s kissing abilities in a separate interview.
She was quizzed about which Hollywood star she enjoyed the most.
The Bend It Like Beckham star responded: “Johnny Depp sure wasn’t bad.”
Knightley joins the ranks of many actors who have worked with Depp who have nothing but praise for the American star.
Will Turner actor Orlando Bloom later commented on working with Depp across the pirate film trilogy. “He was one of the most special, standing people I’ve ever met,” he said.
