Spoilers ahead for episode 7 of the FBI Season 5, titled “Ready or Not”.
FBI finally Welcome back to Agent Maggie Bell For the first time since April, she has sufficiently recovered exposure to sarin gas to return to the job. “Ready or Not” also referenced the return of actress Missy Peregrym, months after she left on maternity leave. The agent’s first case involved a double murder that put a lot of pressure on her, and she had a secret safety net in case that pressure became too much for her. Admitting to the OA about this ultimately backfired, and the actress opened up to CinemaBlend about the secret and the potential backlash between Maggie and her partner.
While Maggie seemed all set to return to work upon her return, she found herself struggling with some elements of the case, leading to the revelation that she filled a prescription for anxiolytics she received from a therapist without any connections. To those in the FBI who approved it for actual work. She confided to the OA that she got the pill just in case her nerves from coming back got too much, and promised that she’d tell him if she took one (or even seriously considered taking one), because that would be against office policy due to an agent being in the field on these drugs. .
So even though Maggie didn’t quite keep her prescription secret from everyone, she decided the FBI didn’t need to know unless the anxiety was severe enough to affect her on the job and she took any of the pills. Missy Peregrym affected her character’s state of mind filling the prescription but never officially told the office, saying:
Maggie never lied to the FBI about anxiety medications, but she wasn’t completely forthcoming about getting a prescription for anyone other than OA. She’s made it clear that she’ll let him know if she feels she needs to take any of the medications, and she has a pretty good explanation for why she’s seeing a therapist who doesn’t belong in the office. She was keeping it a secret in some ways, but she wasn’t deceitful. It made her feel safer that she was back, that she was the only one What really made it a problem was organic farming. Peregrym (who previously co How did she relate to Maggie on her return) continued:
Of course OA didn’t break the news about prescribing Maggie some anti-anxiety medication, instead going so far as to try to protect her. He stopped her from shooting offender of the week because she would have had to take a blood test, and thought she might have secretly taken some medication and wanted to cover it up for her.
They got lucky that they still caught the bad guy despite her stopping her from shooting him, but she left their partnership in rough shape. When I asked Missy Peregrym if an OA who didn’t trust her had hurt his partnership with Maggie, she shared:
OA has had a tough time in the months since she was exposed to sarin gas, including He goes through trauma on his own Just a few episodes ago, Zico Zaki opened up about how he handled it differently If Maggie was around. Missy Peregrym confirmed that organic farming had the best intentions with overprotective efforts, then explained:
The good news is, their partnership is clearly not irretrievably damaged at this point, and fans can look forward to seeing them defuse the situation even more in the next episode. Only time will tell what comes of their conversation, but Maggie is officially back in action, and that bodes well for the team moving forward. Hopefully she and OA will be back to their best selves before the year is out!
