We’ve been watching and enjoying Netflix Wednesday, but we’ve learned more about the dance scene that’s getting a lot of chatter on social media. The dance scene, seen in Wednesday’s episode 4, sees Mrs. Adams dancing and appearing to be slightly possessed at the time.
And that revelation was made on Wednesday by herself, Gina Ortega. The star said (in a video below) that she “designed” the routine herself, and credits the ’80s goth inspiration for her performance. You can watch the dance scene below, which takes place at a school function. Watch even if you’ve already seen the scene, just to see Luis Guzmán interact with someone who might be flirting with his daughter.
Back to the disclosure: Ortega (Opens in a new tab) He wrote “Thanks to Siouxsie Sioux, Frug to Bob Fosse’s Rich Man, Lisa Loring, Lene Lovich, Denis Lavant, and archive footage of Goths dancing in clubs in the ’80s. Help me with this.” Here’s a video edit from Tik Tok (Opens in a new tab)where it is detonated.

In a video where the actors interact, the actors who play fellow Nevermore Academy students on Wednesday liked the scene. Ortega admitted that she “felt really insecure” about the scene, and that she thought “it was very obvious that I’m not a dancer or choreographer.” Hopefully, the cheers from her colleagues and fans online will give Ms. Ortega more confidence about her dancing skills.
Wednesday, which has a good shot at being included in our list of the best Netflix shows, has been on Netflix since last Wednesday (November 23).

Naturally, TikTok users are turning this dance into a challenge:

Analysis: More of this, please
It’s pretty cool that Ortega was given the freedom to come up with her own dance number, and it looks like she might have been inspired by how closely she relates to the character. Talking to Wired (Opens in a new tab)She talked about how she loves to dance, but also talked about some of her strangest characteristics.
In that interview, she revealed that she was talking about her friendship with Maddie Ziegler (Dance Moms) and said “She’s a weirdo and I’m a weirdo the way I used to do autopsies on baby animals when I was younger. I just found that dead in my backyard.”
So, if you’re very lucky to find an actor who’s a perfect fit for an iconic character like Wednesday Addams, and you actually find someone whose real-life demeanor seems similar to the character? This dance scene proves that you need to let them improvise all the time.
