High adventure is back with this Disney+ series debut willow. As one of the most recent entries in the 2022 TV schedule, this inherited imitator has started his run of swords and sorcery in epic fashion. For the actors who star in the vision of Executive Producers Jon Kasdan and Michelle Rejwan, the final product is a reward for all the hard work they’ve put in to bring the world of Willow Ufgood back to its fans.
As anyone would expect, those efforts were the result of some crazy training the actors went through to get in fighting shape. However, as I found out during press day for Disney + series, willowIts continuation also opened the door for some great touches that reflected the franchise’s past.
In particular, there was a moment when actor Dempsey Brick found himself called upon to mimic a piece of the epic. He brought up his favorite memories from the training camp experience:
I loved stunts. I won’t say what exactly, but there were some things from the original movie, that were like, “You should learn this exact one, and it’s going to be a little easter egg.” And maybe I’m saying too much, but whatever, I’m starting and I can’t stop. And then the moment I got it, I was like, “Okay, that’s so hot.”

After taking his old man, Airk has a way with both the ladies and the blade; This signature move could seal the deal on that front if that’s what Brick was referring to. Meanwhile, Ruby Cruz’s experience during camp required mastering an intense fight sequence that involved her character Kate, loyal boyfriend and love interest Jade.
Played by Erin Keleman, anyone who has Disney + subscription He was last seen as the charismatic Major Flag Carly Morgenthau in The Falcon and the Winter SoldierJade aspires to become a knight in the Shining Legion. One scene that really tested this side of both Kellyman’s character and Ruby Cruz’s Kit was synchronized fighting which the actor explained to some extent in our interview.

I think it was worthwhile to train our bodies to do something, and suddenly they could do something they couldn’t do before. This was really cool. Me and Irene [Kellyman]Our characters trained together a lot, and we fight together a lot. We had this battle where we had to get everything in sync, and it was very difficult. We did it all day, every day, for a week, and we got all this… I think they cut it. When I watched it, we had never seen it. But it was worth it, it was so rewarding. Just like really satisfying to get it.
Not all of the best training camp moments were about heroism and intense action. Although when it comes to the story that is willow Cast There’s still excitement, Elle Bamber and Tony Revolori tell me, when it comes to the actors bonding through some lighthearted mischief.
While rehearsing for the big stunts they were about to shoot, part of the process involved a pretty standard practice: blocking through the use of cardboard boxes. Those boxes were a lure that led to some fragility, as Bamber and Revolori explain in their shared story:
Ellie Bamber: “My best memories during this period are of these cardboard boxes that are kind of separate areas in this big warehouse that we were doing in the camp.”
Tony Revelori: “The stunt team is focused there.”
bamber: “So they had the boxes even, I guess, separate from the PT area. And one day, I think you were?”
Revolori: “Ammar”.
bamber: “Amar, Tony…and that Dempsey guy. We just decided, ‘Should we run them through, see what happens, and if we get a big deal out of it?'” So we literally threw ourselves into these cardboard boxes, and it might have been…”
Revolori: “We did it all separately. We didn’t do it at the same time.”
Bamber: “…No no. We all did it separately.”
Revolori: “And it was like they were having a big conversation about the fight scenes and fight choreography. “
Bamber:Super serious. “
Revolori: “And Amar dives just rolling through the boxes. Dempsey just like, flat back, back. Ellie walks away like nothing, and says ‘Sorry. Where’s the bathroom?’ I don’t remember what I did, but I do remember what you all did.Oh!I think I might have put on VR goggles and just walked and pretended [fight]. Anyway, that was a lot of fun.”
Bamber:That was a great memory, I’ll do it again.”
What we know about willow series is that it takes some time after the events of the movie. In this world of magical thinking and camaraderie, even in the face of great challenge, it doesn’t take long for danger to manifest itself, leading our characters on a journey that will see them meet Warwick Davis’ Willow Ofgood.
This kind of energy seemed to persist throughout the entire training experience, as well as into the actual shooting itself. Completing the shared stories are Erin Keleman and Amar Chadha Patel, who play willow Resident Burglar and Boorman comic relief.

Shatha Patel:I actually learned to ride a horse, which was quite an accomplishment for me. There was one riding session near the end of boot camp where Ellie and I went, and they were like, “Do you guys want to try ‘riding the flag?'” And we’re like, ‘What’s that?’ “.
