According to Powell, the cake is special for being from Cruz, and also apparently very tasty, so he threw a party specifically so his friends and family could try the cake. Powell explains…

If you’ve worked with Tom Cruise, done a Tom Cruise movie, you’ve got this Tom Cruise cake, and over time it’s turned into this global operation where he sends every birthday, I don’t know how many, it could be thousands, I have no idea how many Cakes that come out, but it’s the tastiest cake I’ve ever had. It’s like coconut cake. My friends who tried it, they loved it so much that it arrived around December 1st, like, “Hey, are you there yet?” So now I’m having a party at my house where I’m going to have a cake cruise. It’s my cruise cake party, and I’m going to invite people to try a bite or two of my cruise cake.
While Top Gun: Maverick It was released just this year, and it was a huge hit, and the movie has experienced major delays due to the global pandemic, so Glen Powell has seen the holiday season several times since the movie was made. It’s really cool that the cake itself, being a Tom Cruise holiday tradition, has now spawned a new holiday tradition for Glen Powell.
Powell calls Cake Cruz a “global operation” and it should be. Tom Cruise has been in dozens of movies with thousands of people, and while it’s unlikely that everyone in the cast and crew of every movie gets a cake, even if only the key actors and key behind the camera crew get one, it’s still It would be hundreds or thousands of cakes at this point, and every year Cruise needs to add a few more as the man has to slow down the movie business.
