The clock is ticking for Disney Plus subscribers who want to make sure they choose the right membership to save money for next year. So, while you’ve been waiting for The Mandalorian Season 3 March, you now have a more pressing matter.
Tomorrow, Thursday, December 8thHuge changes to Disney Plus are coming into effect. The kind you may or may not have seen coming. If you want to keep our ad-free Disney Plus service now, you’ll spend an extra $3 per month — thanks to its new $10.99 per month Disney Plus Premium price.
New Thursday also offers $7.99 per month Disney Plus BasicAd-supported layer. What do I do? Well, I often opt for an ad-free experience, but I know I don’t want to pay more either.
Fortunately, you don’t need to accept this new price, if you want to use one of Disney’s other plans.
Option 1: You choose a Disney package that is about to go away
My way to fight the elevation is to subscribe to Hulu and Disney Plus all on the same account, and get what’s referred to as a Disney package (which also includes ESPN Plus). This used to cost $13.99 a month, and after the December 8th price increases, The Disney bundle is $14.99 (Opens in a new tab)$13.98 off combined costs for Hulu (with ads), Disney Plus (no ads), and ESPN Plus (with ads).
And I did even though I don’t plan on ever touching ESPN Plus, because the $14.99 Disney bundle still offers $3.99 in savings versus just Disney Plus (no ads) and Hulu (with ads).
Just look at the prices:
Header cell – column 0 | Previous monthly price | New monthly price |
---|---|---|
Disney Plus | $7.99 | $10.99 (December 8) |
Disney Plus with ads | not available | $7.99 (Dec 8) |
Hulu with ads | $6.99 | $7.99 (Oct 10) |
Hulu without ads | $12.99 | $14.99 (Oct 10) |
ESPN Plus (always contains ads) | $6.99 | $9.99 (Aug 2022) |
For whom is this: Disney Plus subscribers who also use Hulu and/or ESPN Plus.
fine print: Canceling Hulu or Disney Plus ends your savings.
Do you just want Disney Plus? Save by buying in bulk
If you don’t watch Hulu (I use it at Abbott Elementary and swarm Hulu Originals and video-on-demand titles) it’s time to think about how much Disney Plus you can expect to watch.
Until the price hike starts, no ads Disney Plus is $79 for one year (Opens in a new tab). This is a deal for someone who wants to not run Disney Plus ads for at least two-thirds of the year (that is, 8 of the next 12 months).
Upcoming reasons to want Disney Plus include the inevitable arrival of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Disney Plus (likely late December or early January), What If…? Season 2 (Early 2023), Secret Invasion (Spring 2023), Loki Season 2 (Summer 2023), and Ironheart (Fall 2023).
Oh, and what if you’re OK with ads, provided they come with savings? Well, for starters, there is no Disney Plus Basic annual plan announced.
And since Disney Plus Basic will cost $7.99, you’ll only want to sign up for the $80 annual plan if you anticipate you’ll want Disney Plus for 11 to 12 months next year.
Outlook: You can save money, it’s just how you do it
As I was able to tell, Disney only offers savings if you are willing to purchase more major streaming charts. Disney bundle $14.99, which won’t be available to sign up after the eighth day, is the way to spend as little as possible while still having ad-free Disney Plus and any kind of Hulu. And she has ESPN Plus. You can save $13.98 versus buying them all on their own.
In a smash hit “Hit me, I’m gonna be stronger than you can imagine” moment, however, this one bundle will be replaced by three new bundles:
Header cell – column 0 | $14.99* | $12.99 | $19.99 | $9.99 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Disney Plus without ads | yes | number | yes | number |
Disney Plus with ads | number | yes | number | yes |

you save | $13.98 | $12.98 | $15.98 | $5.98 |
*No longer available as of December 8th
cheaper it is Disney package $9.99. It’s for those who don’t agree with ads on Disney Plus and Hulu. Offers $5.98 in savings, no ESPN Plus.
The new version of the standard Disney package, which is cheaper, is Disney bundle $12.99. It contains ad-supported versions of Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus. Total savings of $7.
Then there is a file Disney bundle $19.99 For those who don’t like ads. This has the largest price, but it has the highest savings, with $15.98 off separate prices, including ad-free Disney Plus and Hulu, as well as ad-supported ESPN Plus.
We wish there was a bundle that only contained ad-free Disney Plus and ad-free Hulu, but three bundles offer more options than the previous single bundle. Act now or try to forget that you have a choice.
