Wrestling fans have been thrilled with the number of wrestlers who have returned to WWE recently. However, there are still superstars waiting to be seen again. Unfortunately, it looks like Sasha Banks may not be jumping back into the fold anytime soon. This concept seems to be getting legit, especially since it has been reported Banks will appear at the upcoming Wrestle Kingdom in Japan. Now, another report has dropped purported details about why banks haven’t come home yet — and why they might be pursuing deals elsewhere.
The latest news on Sasha Banks’ situation comes from Dave Meltzer, who spoke about what he knew about the situation while he was at it Observer Wrestling Radio (Across Comicbook.com). According to Meltzer, it’s clear that WWE has tried to win back the banks, but the insider also notes that neither party can settle an appropriate price point for the contract:
They were talking to her [Banks] about yield, and they were very far apart in terms of money. That was the last I heard…. What she was asking for was a very high number for a WWE wrestler, but if you look at the amount of money WWE is making, she will still be underpaid. Everyone from Roman Reigns to Brock Lesnar is underpaid… that was the last I heard. Now, her contract is set to expire at the end of the year. However, as we’ve seen with many people, they can freeze the deal.
Dave Meltzer added that if WWE wanted, he could stop The Boss from working for NJPW or AEW by “freezing” the deal. On past occasions, the company has made talent wait additional months after the official expiration of their contracts to calculate when they may have been away from the organization.
Sasha Banks hasn’t been in WWE since she was suspended along with her tag team partner, Naomi, in May. Banks and Naomi They handed over their championship belts before a loop of Monday Night Rawresulting in their being “indefinitely suspended” by the organization.
Dave Meltzer went on to say that, as he gets it right now, Sasha Banks is still on the right track to work with NJPW in the future. According to the report, she will not actually wrestle at Wrestle Kingdom 17 but will appear on the show and has verbally agreed to appear at other events:
She will appear in NJPW in 2023. Barring a last-minute change and her reneging on what she agreed to, she won’t be returning to WWE, but you can’t always rule that out. …that’s where it all stands….but as of now, I’m done with WWE. Like I said, it can change at any moment.
In short, fans probably didn’t expect to see the 30-year-old star in… Upcoming WWE events. But if the report is true, the situation could turn around if the wrestling brand offers her more money. Few would deny that she’s a high-profile talent, but with a women’s division possibly the strongest in company history, it might be difficult for WWE to justify a large sum.
