Are you ready for 2023? Disney Plus clearly is, and Loki’s Season 2 announcement in our 2023 preview video reminded me there’s at least one reason to subscribe to (or re-subscribe to) Disney Plus in the near future.
Before we start breaking down the trailer, watch it now.
In just a few moments, including one where Loki appears to be in an automatic machine – are we traveling again? Disney Plus and Marvel Studios have me pining for the return of the mischievous alternative.
In the clip, narrated by Loki himself (I mean Tom Hiddleston), we start with that spontaneous shot, where Loki looks either gloomy or frustrated. After the first season ended, I can’t argue with it. Then he checks something in his detective’s notebook. The entire time, he was in full gumshoe mode for his appearance, complete with overcoat, shirt, and tie.
Then, at the moment that made me grin, we hear Owen Wilson’s Moebius say “A little over the top, don’t you think?” It is surrounded by three lokis. They are all suitable. Embedded Mobius. And I’m desperate to know how Loki and Mobius got back together as a spy duo. Also, there’s a blink-and-you-miss shot of Sofia DiMartino’s selfie early in the clip. She’s wearing headphones and that’s all we know.
Of all the shows and movies previewed here, Loki season 2 has the most to stand out simply because it’s the most engaging. Sorry Grogu, but we are waiting for your offer to impress us. Undercover invasion may be cool, but it looks like it’s more connective tissue than the actual thing — until now.
Loki Season 2 is set to debut in the summer of 2023, so expect more upcoming Marvel movies and shows to arrive first. Want more reasons to be excited? Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere at Once) joined the cast.
Loki, back on the automaton, does a sideways glance at the camera, and that’s it.
Analysis: Does Disney Plus ‘2023 look like enough?
Elsewhere in the clip, Emilia Clarke says “This is only the beginning” in Secret Invasion, Dean Garen (Pedro Pascal) asks if we’re ready for an adventure in The Mandalorian season 3 clip and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) takes her mantle.
Oh, and Larry Williams (Dominic Thorne) shaves off a shot from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The latter is important, as it confirms that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won’t be coming to Disney Plus until 2023.
Next, we also have Samuel L.
All of this… well, it might sound like a whole year of watching TV to you. To me it feels like 3-4 series you might be interested in, a movie I watched that I want to rewatch and other things that aren’t quite as cool on an Andor level. Does Disney Plus 2023 look better to you? Let me know in the comments below.
