What do we want from Season 7?

Now this Rick and Morty Season 6 of the series has officially ended, time to look forward to what comes next in Season 7 of the series! The sixth season of the long-running series from Adult Swim has come with a lot of changes compared to what came before. Not only did there seem to be a more coherent vision tying each episode together through either character growth, or narrative threads to follow, but it was clearly setting the stage for a new case leading into future seasons.

The series seems to be making the most of its pickup for several more seasons to come with season six of the series, and that’s something that should ideally continue into season seven. Rick and Morty It doesn’t exactly need a concrete sequential story that connects each episode, but the big thing we want to see in new episodes and beyond is just the continued development of each character noticing that the things that happened… …had happened.

What should we watch in season 7 of Rick and Morty?

The final episodes of Rick and MortySeason 5 actually started things off in a pretty good way as season 6 finally went. These episodes connected to each other’s events in a much more direct way than we’ve seen on the series before, which is why the first episode of Season 6 was so big. I continued that serialized narrative, and instead shifted the ensuing episodes to the side and began to focus on more episodic stories.

This is where Season 6 was strongest. It may not have been taken directly from each episode, but instead the sequel came from the fact that even though these were episodic adventures, they left an impact on the characters themselves. This is what should continue in season seven. While fans definitely want more Rick Prime, Evil Morty, Summer Night, and some grand plots, the most fun in the series comes from watching the characters grow.

Rick’s journey has been amazing to watch in Season 6 as we start to see him reflect on what he’s done to Morty and the others, and even start to change his ways. That’s what makes Rick Prime so compelling because at the end we get to see him step back because he can’t move on from this terrible part of his past. That’s what makes Rick Prime an even better villain, and that’s the crux of what we need to see in Season 7. This can be done even without Rick Prime himself.

So, more than seeing more villains return or more fan-favorite characters, Season 7 just needs to continue what Season 6 did and acknowledge the past. Rick and Morty Made the iconic decision not to go down the sitcom route and reset the status quo after every episode, now that we’re in seven seasons, the best way forward is to continue to have all this episodic fun but just admit that it all happened when someone brought it up.
