James Gunn raises the possibility of death in the DCU

Deathstroke may be coming to the DC Universe. Although James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t unveiled their plans for the new franchise, the former continues to be one of the most active filmmakers on Twitter. As such, fans have been asking the director-turned-ceo various questions about the new DC Studios, including which characters could eventually appear in projects for the company. As one fan was quick to find out, one of DC’s most iconic villains could be joining the new cinematic universe long before it’s ever gone.

In response to a fan who asked if there were any plans for Slade “Deathstroke” Wilson to appear in the DCU, Gunn responded with a simple tweet, saying, “It could be…”

Although Deathstroke has appeared in several live-action forms, the most well-known is the unrealized version played by Joe Manganiello in the final moments of Justice League. At the time, the post-credits scene was supposed to establish the role of the antagonistic villain in the canceled Ben Affleck solo Batman click.

“Once [Affleck’s] Batman It was cancelled, I kind of crossed it out and I thought, ‘This is over,'” Manganiello said Entertainment tonight this past May about his short-lived role as Deathstroke. “I had already changed gears and started working in the studio on an original Deathstroke movie but that didn’t happen either. So for me, I just let it go. And then a couple of weeks before Justice League He came out theatrically [in 2017]I got a call from one of the executives who said, “By the way, we retooled the scene and eventually came back to announce justice league 2“.”

I think the fans’ appetite is quenched for more, they want more. And Deathstroke’s origin wouldn’t necessarily have anything to do with that [SnyderVerse] Manganiello added, “The track, it was his separate story. So he’s not necessarily part of that universe, it was his own separate part.”

At one point, Gunn also considered the character to be included in The Suicide Squad, though he ultimately didn’t make the cut. It’s unclear if Gunn hopes Manganiello will reprise the role or if the director plans to cast someone new.
