Tom Anderson, the creator of MySpace, wants to go back and become the owner of another leading social media platform: Twitter. Twitter has had a strange 2022 as Elon Musk announced his interest in buying the company for $44 billion earlier this year. He quickly retracted his intention to buy the company, which led to a major lawsuit that ended with Musk agreeing to buy it back. At the end of October, Elon Musk took full control of the company and began making major changes including laying off half of the company, dissolving the board of directors, introducing controversial policy changes and a revamped Twitter subscription service.
Just a month and a half later, Elon Musk confirmed that he plans to step down as CEO of Twitter once he finds someone else who can take over as CEO. As of now, we have no idea who that could be, and it appears Musk hasn’t found a candidate yet. However, many are actively campaigning for the role including MySpace Tom himself, Tom Anderson. The MySpace creator responded to Musk’s resignation tweet with His MySpace profile picture, apparently trying to position himself to run for the position. Anderson had not used Twitter for over a year until Elon Musk began suggesting he might step down as CEO. At that time, Anderson began brainstorming ideas for the CEO position. Of course, this might just be a joke and he might not actually want the role, but that remains to be seen.

Twitter has undergone a lot of changes since Elon Musk took over. Even though the number of users and engagement has increased (according to Musk), advertisers have also fled the platform and Musk has talked about how the functionality is a scam because the company is just spending money. Whether that sounds attractive to anyone, let alone someone whose most notable job was running a social media company during a very different internet landscape, is a mystery at the moment.
