The show took a six-season break thanks to a recent series of episodes that aired on Yahoo! Screen, and earlier this year, it was announced that the social communication The movie is finally on its way to premiering exclusively for Peacock subscribers. But, social communication Creator Dan Harmon shared a good reason why this upcoming movie steers away from paintball and Dungons & Dragons.

But while visiting the last episode of Six seasons and a podcast (Opens in a new tab)Dan Harmon went on to explain why he decided to exclude these games from the narrative, starting with the following explanation about Paintball:
It’s easier for me to rule things out than to tell you what we’re after. For example, we start, “Do we really think it would be a good idea for a paintball episode?” It’s one of the first things to cut out because it’s the first thing that pops out of your head, and that’s a problem with the community movie concept. We’ve done many episodes where you’re hilariously bound into a structure that isn’t a traditional sitcom story, but rather through the lens of David Fincher or Martin Scorsese. There were a lot of special episodes that were kind of like homages to the genre. The paintball thing was one of them. We tried doing more paintball, and they were all totally cool things to do, but is it possible that anything could capture the joy of the original paintball episode?
Five paintball-themed episodes were produced during the show social communication, the first of which was “Modern Warfare” for the first season. Each time, a campus-wide paintball erupts, leaving utter chaos and allowing the show to explore specific genres/put its own spin on popular properties that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible, like Westerns and Star Wars. As Dan Harmon sees it, paintball episodes, particularly the first one, have been pulled so well that he doesn’t need to revamp that floor for social communication Movie.
Perhaps most importantly, Dan Harmon has also spoken out about the fact that there have been more school shootings in the years since. social communicationThe Paintball episodes that have aired make it particularly unwise to revisit that concept, leading him to go over why Dungeons & Dragons shouldn’t either:
You run around with guns in school, which was never a good idea on TV even back then. How can we do that in an acceptable way? You sit down to write the movie and you say, “So, we’re going to do it right?” Because it’s so emblematic of what made our show special and the victories we’ve had, and the things we’ve contributed as a show. Or we’ll play Dungeons & Dragons for 90 minutes. I’d have to rule it out–perhaps no better writer would.
Dan Harmon also contributed social communication The movie won’t see Greendale shut down after season 6, nor will the starring characters get back together via a college reunion. So while Harmon still wants to keep exact plot details under wraps, fans now know at least a little bit of what not to expect from this streaming feature. Harmon is co-writing a file social communication A movie with Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Oddy, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong are all officially on board to reprise their roles.
