UFC Hall of Famer Stefan Bonnar has passed away at the age of 45

UFC Hall of Famer Stefan Bonnar has passed away at the age of 45. The UFC announced the tragic news earlier today, saying that he passed away on December 22nd. According to the UFC, it is believed that he died of presumed heart complications while on the job, and the UFC released an official statement. On Twitter, the official UFC account wrote: “The UFC family is saddened by the passing of UFC Hall of Famer Stefan Bonnar. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.” His son Bonar is survived, and we are with all of Bonar’s family and friends.

The UFC also highlighted Bonnar’s stellar career and what he meant for the UFC to become the force it is today in Posted on UFC.com. Bonnar was a competitor during the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2005, and his fight with Forrest Griffin would eventually become one of the most revered fights of all time, and the fight was subsequently placed in the UFC Hall of Fame fight suite.

UFC President Dana White also spoke about what Bonnar’s contributions meant to the growth of the UFC, and how this fight changed the sport and the course of the UFC.

“Stefan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon,” White said. “His fight with Forrest Griffin changed the sport forever, and he will never be forgotten. The fans loved him, bonded with him and he always gave them his best. We will miss him.”

This fight would launch Bonnar into the new stratosphere, and he would end up facing some of the best the sport has to offer, including Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz, Griffin, Rashad Evans, James Irvin, Keith Jardine, and more. His career record was 17-9, and during an interview, Bonnar talked about that first matchup with Griffin and what he took most out of it.

“It was kind of a little lesson,” Bonnar said. “If you never quit, you really don’t fail. That was the perfect example of that. Give it your all and something good will come out of it.”
