Star Wars fans believe that the Perseverance rover left a lightsaber on Mars

star Wars Fans took to social media this weekend to enjoy a little pics of Mars. NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover dropped a sample tube — a collection of rocks picked elsewhere on the Red Planet — at the site of a planned Mars sample return, a complex collaborative mission between the US space agency and the European Space Agency aimed at returning those rocks to Earth. study for the next twenty years. to me CnetHowever, the plan is for a Sample Retrieval Lander to be launched in 2028, to begin the mission in earnest. This will lead to samples being returned to laboratories on Earth by the mid-2030s.

So, what does it all have to do with it star Wars? Fans (and even the director of JPL) have taken to social media to make jokes about how much the sample tube looks like the handle of a lightsaber.

The depot’s plan is to have the rover deliver the samples to the recovery craft, but if the rover doesn’t last that long, there will be alternative ways to retrieve it on board the recovery mission.

It’s just not star Wars Fans who reacted to this – as you can imagine, doctor who Fans thought it looked more like a sonic screwdriver than a light saber…but star Wars Twitter was completely overwhelmed for a while.
