Last week’s episode of Disney+ willow It saw the return of a fan-favorite character from the 1988 movie of the same name, and today’s episode debuted a long-awaited new franchise. It was announced at D23 back in September that Christian Slater would be joining the series, and many wondered who he’d be playing. In fact, some suspect he could take on the role of Madmartigan. Sadly, the new series doesn’t feature Val Kilmer in the fan-favorite role, but his presence is felt throughout the show. In “Prisoners of Skellen”, Slater introduces himself as Madmartigan, but is not actually playing Kilmer. Warning: spoilers ahead!
In the episode, Madmartigan’s daughter Kate (Ruby Cruz) and his old friend Willow (Warwick Davis) find themselves captured and taken to an underground mine prison where they encounter Slater’s character who says he’s been imprisoned for a decade. He tells Kate, “I’m your father, and I missed the hell out of you.” However, it is immediately apparent that he is messing with them and soon reveals his name is actually Alagach and that he fought alongside Madmartigen in the Battle of Land’s End.
“Your father is alive,” Alcash reveals to Kate. “Help me get out of here and I’ll take you to him.” Kit ends up saving Allagash and reveals that there is a secret vault in the mines that Madmartigan entered before disappearing. Kate is drawn into the cellar and finds her father’s sword and hears his voice, begging her for help. In addition to helping Kate find out the truth about her father, Alagash also had a very funny encounter with Burman (Amar Chadha Patil). In the end, Aglaash ends up staying in the mines to give the party some time to escape, and the fight dies down.
Who voiced Madmartigan in willow?
Since Kilmer was unable to appear on the show, his son is with a colleague willow Co-star Joanne Wahl, Jack Kilmer, actually provided the voice of Madmartigan in the episode.
