While a lot of The last of usThe lasting impact on both video game fans and non-gamers associated with the emotional development of Joel and Ellie’s relationship, the undeniable draw for gamers also comes with the placement of blades and bullets in brutal and humanoid enemies. And while there’s plenty of terrifying things in store for audiences, co-developer Neil Druckmann has revealed that the TV experience won’t depend so much on violent encounters.
Both award-winners were written and co-directed by Neil Druckmann We delay games, and co-created the spin-off adaptation alongside Chernobyl Maestro Craig Mazin, so he’s undoubtedly the best person to talk about how and why changes were made when moving the apocalyptic story from the Playstation console to the HBO production. talk with Sound effects magazine Ahead of the HBO horror-drama premiere on Jan. 15, Druckmann explained why the creative team chose to move away from the constant and consistent violence Joel encounters in the source material, saying:
As someone who adores both TLoU Games With All My Black Heart, I can certainly relate to the idea that while the level of physical violence does get annoying at times – usually through cut scenes – it doesn’t take long for the desensitization to kick in. To Druckmann’s point, trying to survive a constant stream of gunfights and clicker attacks gets players attached to a pressure in Joel’s head space as part of the overall gaming experience, but that’s a very different thought process than the one TV writers embrace for their more passive audiences. Watching Joel fight for survival in live action doesn’t require all the steps taken to ensure players stay motivated, and therefore doesn’t require a lot of violent threats.
All that said, there’s no doubt some fans will read “less violent” as “less fun” or “less original,” but let’s nail a nail bomb with these kinds of ideas. Less is more is always the best way to approach things, and it’s easy to understand why posting more violent sequences will make them more effective as you watch. The last of usAny Production wrapped back in November 2021, would probably be criticized by everyone if it were just an endless streak of gunfights with desperate stragglers and former Fireflies. Druckmann and Mazin seem to stick to the old tenets of horror, which they hope will help make standout scenes more impactful.
And viewers can sure bet that live-action Clickers will bring the same heart-pounding tension that blind mutants bring to the game series. Druckmann & Co. The terrifying monsters are brought almost entirely to life through practical effects, costumes, and makeup, making them as worthy of the same cast as the characters.
with or without violent content in the mix, The last of us It will provide a variety of big moments from the video game, with plenty of details and easter eggs for players to look for. Arguably the two biggest casting highlights have already been revealed, with voice actors of Ellie and Joel Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker join the cast Like Anna Williams and James, respectively.
