But CES has days of press and announcements already kicking off, with new product unveilings to spark the excitement and curiosity of tech fans. So read on for the latest news, announcements, and insights from CES 2023.
The latest CES 2023 news
There’s a lot going on at CES 2023 already, from behind-the-door briefings to leaks and full-fat announcements. Read on for the latest news from the big brands and the most exciting technology categories.
samsung
Samsung already has a busy CES fully revealing Neo G9 Odyssey, a 57-inch mini LED monitor featuring a resolution of 7680 x 2160 which is the equivalent of two 4K screens in one. With a 240Hz refresh rate and a 1000R curved screen, the Odyssey Neo G9 targets PC gamers with ultra-powerful platforms who want a massive and immersive desktop gaming experience.
For people who aren’t looking to go that far, Samsung has unveiled the Odyssey G95SC, its first ultra-HD QD-OLED screen. With a 1800R curved screen, 32:9 aspect ratio and 5120 x 2880 resolution, it should be a bit more manageable for people with powerful but not screaming PCs. Samsung also noted that the 34-inch Odyssey G8 QD-OLED that it unveiled at IFA 2022 will also debut this year.
A more interesting announcement comes from Samsung in the form of the Flex Hybrid. This device, which comes courtesy of Samsung Display, showcases the concept of a “smart mobile device” that has a foldable and sliding screen.
With this approach, you take a 10.5-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and expand it to a 16:10 12.4-inch screen. So not only does it add more space, but it also changes the look of your screen.
While 10.5 inches is a bit big for a smartphone, it’s not hard to see how this technology can be condensed into a phone’s screen and represent an evolution of foldable phones. Don’t expect to see this on a potential Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, but it could be a possibility for Samsung’s foldable phones and tablets in the future.
Sticking with displays, Samsung also unveiled the ViewFinity S9, a 27-inch 5K monitor that aims to take on Apple’s and LG’s professional-level monitors by offering an IPS panel with 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut and a sleek design.
Moving away from displays, somewhat, Samsung also unveiled its Bespoke Refrigerator Family Hub Plus line. This takes the company’s existing range of Family Hub smart refrigerators and adds a larger 32-inch touch screen to them. What may seem like overkill to many, may be the answer for people looking to watch cooking videos or TikToks while looking for inspiration for what to cook.
There’s support for Google Photos, too, as well as straightforward access to 190 TV channels in the US or about 80 in South Korea through the Samsung TV Plus app; Although we’d be reluctant to say how good the vertical display is for watching TV.
LG
Compared to Samsung, LG is arguably slower at CES. But the electronics giant has revealed its LG C3 and G3 OLED TVs. Following on from their excellent predecessors, the LG C2 and LG G2 OLEDs, this new TV will get access to the new α9 AI Processor Gen6 for upscaling, improved dynamic tone mapping as well as virtual 9.1.2 surround sound playback straight out of the box.
Along with the upgrades to upscaling and sound reproduction, LG says the G3 OLED will also come with Brightness Booster Max technology — a combination of a new light structure and lighting algorithm — that helps make it up to 70 percent brighter than before, with no new gap. wall mount.
LG’s webOS, which powers smart TVs, is set to get an upgrade by being smarter, offering more personalized content recommendations, and arranging apps into more logical groups. This should help the operating system look more detailed rather than a scattering of content and apps on the user interface.
nvidia
Expect to see the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card announced at Nvidia’s CES keynote later today, as the company’s website appears to have accidentally revealed the card early on.
When discussing its Omniverse 3D development kit, Nvidia listed the RTX 4070 Ti in the system requirements section; It has since been removed but has been tagged by digital trends (Opens in a new tab). But that’s enough of a hint that a full graphics card reveal is coming. Expect a slightly reduced version of the RTX 4080 for what we hope will be a more affordable price.
televisions
We haven’t seen it yet, but the world’s first wireless TV is set to debut at CES 2023. It could revolutionize TVs, eliminating the need for wires that can make wall mounting difficult or limiting where you put them. television.
Made in the USA. The Displace TV uses a battery to provide 30 days of TV viewing away from a power outlet. So while you will need to charge it, most likely using a wired power source, it will still be more portable than standard TVs. This is one we definitely want to hear more about.
laptops
All is quiet on the laptop front for now, but both Alienware and Asus have teased new gaming hardware on the way. We expect these to come with the latest Nvidia graphics cards, potential mobile versions of the GeForce RTX 40 series, as well as the latest silicon from AMD and Intel, and possibly some fast refresh rate monitors.
Acer has really jumped in a bit and announced a new Swift Edge Ultraportable laptop, featuring a 16-inch display and the latest chips from Intel.
We expect Acer to showcase its glasses-free stereoscopic 3D display technology on its Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop and two portable external monitors. We saw this technology early last year and were suitably impressed with it.
