While we wait for word on DC Studios’ three-year plan, more reports continue to emerge about the turbulent time at DC Films before James Gunn and Peter Safran take on their new roles. When the now-defunct DC Extended Universe began to unravel, Dwayne Johnson reportedly went straight to Warner Bros. head of discoveries David Zaslav to try and build his own superhero universe. In a new report from diverseThe Black Adam star was reportedly lobbying for a plan that led to the Black Adam v Superman movie showdown.
Instead of going through the necessary channels, Johnson’s business reports went directly to Zaslav after the Warners Bros. merger closed. and Discovery earlier this year. At the time, Black Adam producers Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn were part of the group trying to continue animating the DCEU. As one might expect, Johnson’s moves reportedly ruffled feathers in the studio with a source diverse“Dwayne circled around everyone, who didn’t sit well.”
While we don’t know what DC Universe’s immediate slate will look like, both Gunn and Johnson have confirmed that Black Adam won’t be part of the first chapter of the franchise’s new storytelling efforts.
