Google Stadia shutdown: The last weekend to enjoy the cloud gaming platform | games | entertainment

Google Stadia is about to shut down for good, just three years after its original debut. If you have a Stadia Controller in addition to any games tied to your account, consider this your last warning to enjoy the cloud gaming platform before it’s shut down for good. Google Stadia will officially shut down on January 18th, making this the last weekend to access your games.

Google Stadia eliminates the need for a dedicated console, allowing users to stream games over the cloud using the official Stadia console.

And assuming you had a decent internet connection, the technology was actually pretty sound.

You didn’t need a PC or a powerful console to enjoy demanding games like Red Dead 2 or Cyberpunk 2077, for example. In fact, the Stadia version of Cyberpunk 2077 was actually one of the best versions of the game at launch.

However, unfortunately, some questionable trading decisions did not do any good for the platform. Notably, the prices of the games were very high.

For the most part, Stadia games cost the same as their PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts, despite concerns that you won’t be able to access your content if the service goes offline.

That’s exactly what happened, though Google has at least provided refunds to affected customers.

Google explains more: “Beginning November 9, 2022, Stadia will attempt to automatically process refunds for all purchases of games, additional content, and subscription fees other than Stadia Pro made through the Stadia Store.

We ask that you be patient while we work through each transaction and ask that you refrain from contacting customer support as they will not be able to expedite the refund process during this time.

“We still expect the majority of refunds to be processed by January 18, 2023.”

The Stadia Store is now closed and Pro subscriptions are no longer there, although you can access any of the games you purchased, even if you’ve already received a refund.
