Colin Farrell jokes that the title of frontrunner for an Oscar “isn’t something I’ve heard of myself.”

Los Angeles — On The Red Carpet caught up with Colin Farrell at the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival where Farrell told George Pinacio that working on “The Banshees of Inisherin” was so much fun because it was a reunion of old friends. “The reductionism was there, and the knowledge and confidence in each other was there,” Farrell said. “It was getting the band back together, it was good.”

Farrell’s performance as Pádraic Súilleabháin in this tragic Irish comedy gave Hollywood a broader understanding of his talents. “I don’t feel like I’ve worked harder on this than I’ve done on anything over the past 25 years, but every movie, every story asks different things from you. Whatever they asked of me, I enjoyed throwing in,” Farrell said.

In addition to being honored for his work on “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Farrell is also a frontrunner in this year’s Oscar race for Best Actor. At the 57th National Society of Film Critics, held on January 7, “The Banshees of Inisherin” took home two awards, including Best Actor for Colin Farrell and Best Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon. The San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle awarded the film three wins: Best Picture, Best Actor for Colin Farrell, and Best Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon.

At the Palm Springs International Awards, Farrell was honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin’. “The reception was absolutely shocking, absolutely shocking. I’m not even kidding. There’s no false modesty there. I don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” said Farrell. “I’m so grateful for that, I feel like I’m representing the cast and crew here.”

When asked how he felt being a strong contender for the Oscars, Farrell joked, “It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard about myself. I’ve read a few things over the years, so it’s good.”

The Denver Film Critics Association has nominated The Banshees of Inisherin for eight awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Martin McDonagh, and Best Actor for Colin Farrell. The Banshees of Inisherin’ was nominated for nine awards by the Seattle Film Critics Association, including Best Picture, Best Director for Martin McDonagh, and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Colin Farrell.

The Oscar nominations will be announced on the morning of January 24. You can live with it on the red carpet.
