We are just a few weeks away from the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. Galaxy Unpacked is set for February 1 when we could see Samsung launch three phones, among other possible devices. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to lead the pack, being the premium flagship that the company will be offering.
The most persistent rumor we’ve heard about the S23 Ultra is the big camera upgrade it could get this year. It can give the Samsung S23 Ultra a huge jump in megapixels with a clear 200MP sensor. That in itself is enough to make competitors sit up and take notice – in fact, recently, A.J A leaked teaser for the 200MP camera Show off its obvious capabilities, including the star night mode.
If the rumors are true, the star of the show appears to be Samsung’s 200MP sensor. Even the Samsung Unpacked invite has three spotlights, much like the Galaxy S’s camera array.
For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have a 48MP camera, and the Google Pixel 7 Pro has a 50MP main sensor. The alleged 200MP camera on the S23 Ultra might put Samsung in our list of best camera phones, if not at the top. And while that could be a really big upgrade, I’m worried the design could get a prime deal this year with the S23 Ultra.
When choosing a new phone, design is almost as important as battery life, camera, and overall phone performance. The way the phone looks in the hand with its use, je ne sais quoi also plays a huge role in what attracts people to the device.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra design rumored
We’ve seen it recently A new tweet from the S23 Ultra has been posted by leaker Ice Universe And it was produced by the Dutch site Nieuwe, which probably gives us the best look at what the phone could look like in the end.
The design showcases a slightly curved screen with a rear camera array reminiscent of what the Galaxy S22 Ultra introduced. The single rear cameras, squared-off profile, curved sides, punch-hole selfie camera and built-in S Pen slot still look the same. But the camera set could be larger.
This also ties in with other renders of the device that were leaked earlier. Some rumors indicate Thicker edges, although we take that with a pinch of salt. We can also see A slight increase in the height and width of the phonethough it’s only a fraction of an inch of difference, so we doubt those will be noticeable.
Looking at the leaked renders, it doesn’t seem like Samsung is reinventing the wheel with its design this time around. The company has followed a similar, perfectly square-cornered shape from the Note series that evolved into the Galaxy S Ultra — all while maintaining a similar design language.
On the other hand, Apple has always managed to turn heads with its designs. Recently, the iPhone 14 Pro debuted on the dynamic island which impressed with its sheer simplicity and impressive use of space. Apple added fluidity to the regular notch and gave the extra space some actual functionality that showed some app activity. There wasn’t much in the phone’s hardware that changed except for a larger bump for the camera on the back of the device.
Dynamic Island was a design upgrade that set a new standard and also proved that new design upgrades aren’t necessarily just about the hardware.
I hope Samsung takes a page out of Apple’s book for the S23 Ultra. Something that combines hardware and software as a step forward.
We’re not looking for anything groundbreaking, as Samsung already does with its foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 — but I wish Samsung would surprise us and give us something uniquely different even if it’s on display.
Even with colors, things look a little too washed out for the S23 Ultra. The colors we see on the leaks refer to black, white, dark green, and light pink. Samsung could opt for this nude color palette with the S23 series, but I’d like to see a bright pop of color on its flagships as well. I love Google’s color scheme with the Pixels, and I hope Samsung picks up on that.
With the S22 Ultra we got a new Burgundy color, but I personally preferred white, if only because it was more eye-catching.
Basically, we can hope Samsung brings us camera upgrades, better battery life, and a whole host of Pixel-like AI. But even with a 200MP camera, the S23 Ultra will need a lot to take over the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, as we can see in our Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max preview.
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long now to find out what Samsung has in store for us with its flagship products this year.
