Rep. Susan Bonamichi, D-Oregon, says she and her husband are recovering at home after being hit by a car in Portland on Friday night.
The Democratic congresswoman and her husband, US District Judge Michael Simon, were hit by a car as they crossed the street. The driver turned toward them both at low speed, knocked them down, and remained at the scene to cooperate, according to a Portland police report.
Bonamichi was treated in hospital for a concussion and a gash on her head. Her communications director, Natalie Crofts, said: chirp. Simon was treated for minor injuries. Both are expected to make a full recovery, Crofts said.
Bonamichi, 68, said she and her husband are grateful for the kind thoughts and support they have received.
“Thank you to everyone for your well wishes, and to the first responders and healthcare workers who provided the care we needed,” tweeted on Sunday.
Bonamichi has represented Oregon’s 1st congressional district since 2012.
