Elite Women’s Boxing Club is more than just punching power!

Houston, Texas — Sticking to a New Year’s resolution to get in shape is never easy. Nigel Stokes has been known to help other Houston women achieve their goals for over ten years. The Elite Women’s Boxing Club on Richmond Street is celebrating its 10th anniversary. A place where Nigel and what she calls her “community” meet to keep fit and bond.

“It’s a place where women and girls can build confidence, build self-esteem, and be able to stand up for themselves. The energy here is just amazing.”

Nigel’s personal journey is amazing. She was nearly 400 pounds when she decided things had to change. She joined a boxing club but it was more for serious fighters. I left and started teaching what I had learned remotely in the gardens. “I was surprised at how quickly it grew, and I’ve been teaching all over Houston.”

With the number of her clients continuing to grow, Nigel opened the Elite Women’s Boxing Club in January 2013. Her motto is “You don’t have to be a boxer to train like a boxer”.

Over the past 10 years, Nigel has not only built a gym. It has built a community, and a home for many other people who want to keep fit. Nigel’s advice to someone just starting out or someone who wants to keep a New Year’s resolution is, “Don’t overthink it, don’t set unrealistic goals, stick to it and just do it. Come have fun and create a routine, your body will start to change.”
