A search is underway for another missing traveler in Mount Baldy


Rescue personnel in Southern California found a missing 75-year-old hiker on the same mountain as the actor Julian Sands remained missing.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday evening that Jin Chung of Los Angeles was present Tuesday afternoon on Mount Baldy. The police department said he was hospitalized with “weather-related injuries and a leg injury,” but was still able to get out of the woods with “some help.”

Chung was reported missing on Sunday, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said he had driven up the mountain with two others and planned to meet them in the car at 2 p.m. that same day, but never returned.

The police department said Tuesday that the 65-year-old Sands remains missing and “no clue has been found as to his current location.”

The sand loss was first reported on Jan. 13 while hiking Mount Baldy, which is located in the San Gabriel Mountains, about 40 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. It borders Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

The administration has previously warned hikers to “stay away” from the Mount Baldy area.

“It’s very dangerous and even experienced hikers get into trouble,” the sheriff’s department said.

Earlier this month, Crystal Paola Gonzalez, a mother of four, He died after sliding more than 500 feet Down Baldy Mountain. Friends and family have described her as an experienced hiker.

Sands starred opposite Helena Bonham Carter in James Ivory’s 1985 British romantic film, ‘A Room with a View’.

He also had major roles in the films “Warlock” in 1989, “Arachnophobia” in 1990, “Naked Lunch” in 1991, “Boxing Helena” in 1993, and “Leaving Las Vegas” in 1995.

Sands has worked consistently in the decades since with smaller roles in film and television.
