CenterPoint Energy crews restore power to thousands of customers in the Pasadena and Deer Park areas following severe weather

Pasadena, Texas (KTRK) – CenterPoint Energy crews were working in the Pasadena and Deer Park areas Wednesday morning after severe thunderstorms and at least one tornado moved across Southeast Texas on Tuesday.

According to CenterPoint Energy’s tracker, more than 22,400 customers were still without power as of 8 a.m., and more than 17,000 of them were in the Pasadena area.

More than 217,000 customers have regained their strength in the past 24 hours, according to the tracker.

CenterPoint said its transmitter was damaged. inThe staff brought in a temporary cell tower to replace the destroyed one.

At Deer Park, 24 crews from CenterPoint began restoration work at 6 a.m

While crews work to restore power, it will be another tough day for families affected by the hurricane.

Many families slept in shelters overnight, including one opened by the American Red Cross in the Baker Ripley Building in Pasadena.

The Texas Gulf Coast Red Cross says it is working with emergency managers and community partners to help those affected by the storm.

The refuge is located at 720 Vermont in Pasadena. Baker Ripley says they will take care of residents in need for as long as they need.

Frederick Goodall of Baker Ripley said, “We’ve got cribs. We’ve got food. We’ve got shelter for you, and just a place for you to take care of.”

The Memorial Baptist Church off Vermont was also opened as a temporary disaster relief shelter.

The church provides shelter, showers, food, water, and cleaning crews to those in need.

Both locations are accepting donations to help families in the rebuilding process.

People in the Deer Park area were told to stay home Wednesday as crews work to clear about 30 roads blocked by fallen limbs or power poles. The mayor said that 25 to 30 buildings sustained major damage.
