Microsoft has a potential networking problem for programs like Outlook and Teams; The company receives thousands of reports from users

Microsoft said it was investigating problems with its online services including the Teams messaging system and the Outlook email system after users around the world reported outages on Wednesday.

In a status update, the technology company reported “service degradation” for a number of Microsoft 365 services.

Thousands of users reported problems with Teams, Outlook, cloud computing service Azure and online gaming service XBox Live early Wednesday on the website Downdetector, which tracks outage reports. Later in the morning, it showed that the number of reports had dropped dramatically.

Many users have taken to social media to complain about the downtime.

“We have isolated the issue to a networking configuration issue, and are analyzing the best mitigation strategy to address it without causing additional impact,” said the Microsoft 365 Status Twitter account.

It later tweeted that the network change that was suspected of causing the problem had been rolled back and that it was watching when the rollback took effect.

The day before, Microsoft reported that its quarterly profit fell 12%, reflecting the economic uncertainty that the company said led to its decision this month to cut 10,000 workers.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
