Shotgun Wedding review: A romantic comedy, albeit one with a turbulently high body count | Movies | entertainment

Jennifer Lopez is Darcy, the daughter of a millionaire who is about to tie the knot with slick baseball star Tom (Josh Duhamel).

In a reflection of gender norms, it was the groom who dreamed up the glitzy grand celebration on the tropical island. The simple girl Darcy wanted to escape quietly before settling in a modest mansion.

Uptight Tom’s plans go awry when flashy ex Darcy (Lenny Kravitz) is rocked into giving a flashy but hurtful speech. Then more hackers arrive. And this time, they’re packing guns.

When the boss of this gang of pirates demands $8 million from Darcy’s father, it’s up to the feuding couple to start a rescue bid.

The action scenes are efficiently staged and Jennifer Coolidge makes the most of the script’s two entertaining lines as Tom’s fallible mother.

But, like The Human Centipede, you suspect this is one of those films where they came up with the title first.
