Warzone 2 leak teases the return of Blackout

Call of Duty is reportedly considering bringing back Blackout, the series’ first battle royale mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Call of Duty was very unconventional. The hero shooter formula continued from Black Ops 3, but it dropped the advanced movement to a large extent. I’ve turned the campaign off completely, even though it was there at one point. Perhaps most notably, it also included a battle royale mode known as Blackout. The mod was a rather interesting attempt at a fairly new genre then, but it didn’t catch on for a number of reasons. The competition was a little better at creating a deeper experience, Blackout didn’t get a lot of support, and a lot of people just jumped on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 pretty quick.

This then led to the creation of Infinity Ward Call of Duty: Warzone which was a massive success that led to years of support and one of the most popular battle royale games. Now, according to CharlieIntel, Activision is polling fans and asking what they want to see. In one, fans were asked which map they’d like to see in the next big block Call of Duty: Warzone to update. Among the options that included a completely new map, the original Verdansk map, Verdansk ’84, Caldera, and perhaps most unusually, the Blackout map. Since Blackout has such a large following and was also created by a completely different developer, it’s interesting to see this as an option. However, the Blackout map may work just as well with a war zone Mechanics.

Of course, this is just a scan, so it doesn’t mean anything will happen. However, it’s still interesting that the studio has bounced back enough to consider putting it in a poll. Whether or not it will come to fruition remains to be seen, but it seems clear that there are plans for another addition war zone map in the near future.
