Pasadena Hurricane: Families in Pasadena talk to ABC13 about how they are coping with losses amid the severe weather

Pasadena, Texas (KTRK) – Many families are still feeling the impact of dangerous weather, including an EF3 tornado last week in Southeast Texas.

The video above is an aerial coverage of the storm damage over Pasadena.

One woman, Felicia Luna, did everything she could to protect her young child while inside her apartment during the historic storm.

Luna said she is happy to be alive with her two-year-old son and husband.

Her husband, Robert Luna, was at work on Tuesday when the tornado hit the Beamer Place apartments.

“I just covered my son,” she said. “We got down on the floor, I covered him with my body, and you could hear the sounds around us.”

She said in seconds, the roof fell off.

“Just wreckage everywhere,” she said. “I was screaming for help, it was raining on top of us. My son was shaking and freezing. My neighbor came and helped us.”

Robert Luna rushed home, connected with many feelings.

“I was shocked and very afraid at first, until I saw my wife and son myself,” he said. “The fear subsided after that, and it was no longer unbelievable to see the apartment completely gone.”

In addition to those cruising home, drivers who were out and about were dealing with rough road conditions.

In Navasota, Christopher Gibbs ran errands with his mother, Urania Sweet.

Their car hydroplaned and crashed into a utility pole.

“The telephone pole hit the top of the car, and we tried to back up to avoid hitting the car, but he hit it anyway, and we’re in it,” Gibbs said. “She ended up getting out of the car, standing on the ground, and as soon as she touched the ground, she was gone.

Chris tried to save his mother, but she succumbed to her injuries.

Relatives say that she has always had a big heart. The family started GoFundMe account to help with expenses

“You made people proud,” said Kelsey Manzano. “She was really likable. Yeah, I’d like to mention her because it’s something she doesn’t get very often.”

Luna’s family must start over, all while waiting for a new baby this year. They’ve started too GoFundMe to help with expenses while they recover.

They take this moment to think.

“Take the opportunity to call your loved ones to tell you I love you, and take time with them for granted because from one moment to the next, they just might disappear,” said Robert.
