Sarah Hartsfield: Douglas County, Minnesota reopens investigation into the death of Chambers murder suspect David Bragg’s fiancé

Chambers County, Texas (KTRK) – What began as the suspicious death of a Chambers County husband in January has, in the past few days, turned into a full-blown examination of a woman who has been married five times, engaged at least once, and ended up with the death of two of her partners.

Sarah Hartsfield, already indicted for the murder of her fifth husband, Joseph Hartsfield, faces new scrutiny over the death of her ex-fiancé.

On Wednesday, ABC13 confirmed that officials in Douglas County, Minnesota, have reopened an investigation into the death of David Bragg, who was once engaged to be married to Sarah Hartsfield.

Bragg was shot and killed by Hartsfield in 2018, but this was deemed “self-defense” by local investigators.

Douglas County said the new information leads to reopening the case.

Eyewitness News has reached out to Bragg’s family, who issued the following statement:

“His death was very random, and the circumstances surrounding his death seemed far-fetched, almost artificial. Unfortunately, the DA of Douglas County was not willing to take this case to trial and write it off as ‘self-defense,’ which brought us so much anxiety, lack of closure And hopefully this time we can achieve that closure, knowing that this woman won’t hurt anyone else.”

It all comes as prosecutors are asking anyone who may have had dealings over the past 30 years with Sarah Hartsfield, who is currently in Chambers County Jail on $5 million bail, to contact them with any tips.

One such person in her past is her first husband and high school sweetheart, Titus Nornschild, who told Eyewitness News Tuesday that she threatened him after their divorce, giving him a reason to look over his shoulder of 27 years.

“She just—just made it clear that I shouldn’t leave her. She would leave me. And then, when it got ugly, she told me that, I wouldn’t be surprised if I couldn’t get over it,” Knoernschild said.
