The 15-inch MacBook Air is likely to be available from April 2023. This is according to a DSCC analyst Ross Young (Opens in a new tab) (via 9to5Mac (Opens in a new tab)), who said that Apple has already started producing a board for the new laptop.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors about a potential 15-inch MacBook Air. A number of trusted sources, including Bloomberg Mark Gorman (Opens in a new tab)analyzer Ming Chi Kuo (Opens in a new tab) And of course, Ross Young (Opens in a new tab), all of whom have hinted at a possible Apple laptop in recent months. In his recent Super Follows post on Twitter, Ross said, “The 15.5-inch MacBook Air began production of panels this month. We expect it to be released in early April.”
As we reported throughout June of 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman said the 15-inch is expected to be a wider version of the 13-inch MacBook Air 2022. Gurman claims that Apple initially planned to design the 2022 MacBook Air with a 15-inch display, but decided to stick with a 13.6-inch display that’s slightly larger than the 13.3-inch display on the previous 2020 MacBook Air.
Mark Gurman Report Says 15-inch MacBook Air Will Have Apple’s M2 Chip That Debuted With 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro. Ming-Chi Kuo adds that Apple is working on a 15-inch MacBook with M2 and M2 Pro variants. This 15-inch laptop could be the MacBook Air. The analyst also said that this laptop will be called “MacBook” instead of “MacBook Air”.
And since we’re on the subject of possible new MacBooks, Gurman also said that Apple is working on a new 12-inch MacBook design. It’s not clear what product line this laptop is expected to join, but as Gorman points out, it will be the first 12-inch laptop Apple has sold since the 12-inch MacBook it launched in 2015 and then discontinued in 2019.
prospects
Rumors about a 15-inch MacBook Air seem to pop up every few months from the same sources. Obviously we should take all that has been said with a fair amount of scepticism, but given how the reports come from people with solid track records, it wouldn’t be wise to dismiss their claims.
If the 15-inch MacBook Air does indeed launch this year, it will join the recently released 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 16-inch MacBook Pro. These laptops are marketed to power users. To that end, the 15-inch could be a great (and perhaps affordable) option for casual users. Even if this laptop is rumored to be a larger version of the 2022 MacBook Air, it should still be worth a look.
