Someone stole an important auto part from Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

A catalytic converter theft sidelined the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in Las Vegas late last week. According to Las Vegas 8 news now, the car was in town for several appearances over Super Bowl weekend and was parked in a hotel parking lot when the thieves stole the part — a critical part of the car’s emissions system — Thursday night. The theft was discovered Friday morning when the crew couldn’t get the 27-foot wiener on wheels and it turned up at 10 a.m.

The car was towed to Penske Truck Rental and a temporary part was installed, allowing the Wienermobile to get its look. According to Joseph Rodriguez, the store’s parts manager, getting the correct part for the car can take up to two months due to the high theft of catalytic converters as well as the complexity of the repair.

“It’s a big problem. It’s been going on for two years,” he said. “Last summer especially, it used to take two to three months to get one in. There are gaskets in there that need to be re-sealed on the transformer, and then there are sensors along that area to regulate the heat and temperature of the system. to get what they want.”

Rodriguez also said it was a huge surprise to have a Wienermobile in his shop.

“A hot dog truck, no way,” he said. “Imagine like a huge hot dog in the middle of your garden. There are all these other trucks and you have to work on this.”

The affected Wienermobile is one of six cars owned by Oscar Mayer touring the United States.
