Twisted director teases R-rated ‘popular horror movie’

Last week news broke that there will be another new take on the classic comic hero Hellboy, this time with… crank And Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Co-director Brian Taylor is at the helm, who recently teased that his movie Hellboy: The Twisted Man You’ll embrace the unsettling tone and the R. The first two live-action adaptations from director Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman were critical successes, though embrace the PG-13 tone, while 2019’s Hellboy It received an R rating, but was a failure with both audiences and critics alike. Filming on the new Hellboy movie is expected to begin in the coming months.

“I did a popular R-rated horror movie and the team here at Millennium have been nothing but supportive. They’re an amazing group of people, and they love horror,” Taylor revealed. collider. “We’ve definitely had the discussion of, you know, it doesn’t really serve anyone to make something R for R’s sake. To say it has to be R so we have to add A, B, and C. But this material, this original material is dark and scary and violent and old. So it’s In order to truly embrace it, we don’t want to put any handcuffs on.”

While it has not been officially confirmed that the film is titled “The Crooked Man,” Taylor notes that this series of characters in the comics plays a major role in influencing its narrative.

So first of all, I love Hellboy and I love this favorite character of the era [Guillermo del Toro] The films were space operas on a grand scale and del Toro was pure through and through, the director said. But some storyboards Patrick Cavanaugh Mike [Mignola] What he was doing at the time had a completely different feel. A more slender, lighthearted, creepy, folk horror. Hellboy Younger, wandering the dark corners of the world… Paranormal investigator, night stalker… disabled man In particular it’s just iconic – written by Mike and illustrated by Richard Corbin, another legend. It takes place in the late fifties. For me, it’s my favorite version of the character. So the appeal of this, to me, is to go back to that and do a real reset, and really give us that version of Hellboy, which I don’t think we’ve seen yet. “

The director also admitted that creator Mike Mignola was involved in the screenwriting project, along with writer Christopher Golden, with one challenge being how the project could honor the source material while not being a literal translation.

“We started with a draft written by Mike and Chris Golden. It’s funny how a lot of what I do is try to bring it closer to the original comic book than they did.” Taylor admitted. “The comic book will never be translated directly to the screen, but I will tell you that my goal with the movie is to pay homage to the original comics and bring them to life.”
