Prior to his return to WWE in the spring of 2022, Cody Rhodes was one of the main characters in AEW. As one of the four Executive Vice Presidents, Rhodes helped scout and hire a number of the company’s top talent. Names like Darby Allen and Ricky Starks were touted as stars Rhodes held in high esteem, and it’s no coincidence that their first match in AEW came against American Nightmare. While Rhodes had picked among the craps when it came to the independent circuit, he also had his eye on the underutilized talent that was contracted to other major wrestling promotions.
One of those names was WWE’s Chad Gable. Reports circulated in 2021 that Rhodes was eager to bring the multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion to the company, but ultimately stuck with his longtime employer.
As fate would have it, Rhodes and Gable eventually got to share a locker room, but not in AEW. Both men are members of the Monday Night Raw List and had the opportunity to meet inside the squared circle for the first time earlier this week. Rhodes sealed the victory in a back-and-forth match that lasted about ten minutes.

Although still far from the main event scene, Gable has firmly established himself as a Monday Night Raw primary during the last calendar year. His “Alpha Academy” pairing with Otis helped boost his TV time, with the two being featured regularly in both weekly matches and segments.
Gable has been a doubles specialist for almost the entirety of WWE. His NXT pairing with Jason Jordan put the former Olympian in the spotlight, as the two were among the few developmental picks during the 2016 WWE Draft. After Jordan moved into singles racing, Gable began tagging with Shelton Benjamin in a short-lived tag team. relatively. He then went on to form a unit with Bobby Roode that lasted from late 2018 until mid-2019.
