Our latest producers reveal the secrets of practical effects

The last of us It has some surprisingly practical effects on screen, and the producers have been sharing their secrets this week. Sony has unveiled the first part of From creators to creators A series about the huge HBO. In this conversation, Executive Producers Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin speak to the show’s stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. PlayStation Head of Production Asad Qizilbash also asked how they managed to capture so much sense of life for the series’ environments. Much of this has been achieved, according to Mazin and Druckmann, through smart physical locations and the benevolence of Calgary and Edmonton. Here’s what the creative team had to say below!

“We had these physical locations. Real mountains, real forest, real river, real snow. It was very much like a fantasy in terms of having to fake it,” Druckmann revealed.

Pascal chimed in, “You’ve worn out whole areas of downtown, Calgary and Edmonton,” before Ramsey interjected, “It’s pissing off all the residents.” Rest assured, the urbanites understood and had patience with such a mass production. Perhaps it would also be worth showing their city on a massive property on HBO. With more projects heading towards CGI, finding ways to still incorporate the real world is something fans and viewers have been reaching out for!
