California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that the state will no longer do business with Walgreens because of its recent decision not to distribute Abortion medication by mail in 20 US states.

Its condemnation of the second-largest US pharmacy chain came after Walgreens said on Friday it would stop distributing mifepristone, which is part of a combination of two drugs commonly referred to as Abortion pills.

“California will not do business with @walgreens – or any company that bows to extremists and puts women’s lives at risk. We’re done,” Newsom wrote on Twitter Monday.

The move comes after Republican attorneys in 20 states pressured Walgreens not to sell abortion drugs and threatened legal action.

Walgreens did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company said in a statement to CBS News last week that it intends to “become a certified pharmacy under the program, but we will dispense only in those jurisdictions in which it would be legal to do so if we were certified.”

More than half of all abortions performed in the United States use mifepristone. Medication that is also used to treat miscarriages. It can be ordered online with a prescription, even in states where surgical abortions are restricted.
