Kennedy McMahon talks about possible spin-off of

New York — Dr. Shaun Murphy finds himself facing a malpractice lawsuit in “The Good Doctor” and he’s better off being helped than The Good Lawyer.

The Good Lawyer by Joni DeGroot played by Kennedy McMann, who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

“Johnny is a young attorney working for a reputable law firm,” said McMahon. “However, because of her obsessive-compulsive disorder, she has had some difficulty with other people, or rather people have a hard time with her because of her many rituals and behaviors.”

While Dr. Murphy suffers from autism, despite his autism, he is able to treat patients and often explores complex medical situations that a neurotypical person might not see.

Like her character, McMahon says she also suffers from OCD and finds it very important that the show not portray her as a superpower.

“It’s very difficult and I don’t think we’re taking away from that experience for her,” McMahon said.

If the episode is well received, it will serve as a backdoor pilot for the movie of the same name, “The Good Advocate”.

This episode also introduces Felicity Huffman as Janet Stewart, DeGroot’s boss at the law firm.

“She’s accurate and so on the ball and a pleasure to work with, we had a great, great time,” said McMahon.

Will DeGroot save the day for Dr. Murphy? Find out next “The Good Doctor” this Monday, March 13th at 10pm EST/PT on ABC.
