Curtis, the daughter of Hollywood stars Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, made reference to her famous parents in her emotional acceptance speech.
“My mom and dad have both been nominated for Academy Awards in different categories,” Curtis said, tearfully accepting the award. “You just won an Oscar!”
The 64-year-old actress became the eighth oldest person to win in the history of the category, overtaking Judi Dench, who won for her role in Shakespeare in Love.
in Interview with CBS “Sunday Morning” Last fall, Curtis reprized her role in “Everything and Everywhere at Once,” which became this year’s hit most nominated Film totaling 11 Oscars.
“I know women like Deirdre Beaubeirdre. I think we all do. We’ve all had so many disappointments, so many opportunities that break your heart afterwards. And I think Deirdre’s heart just broke. I know her. And I love her,” she said.
Curtis has had a long career in Hollywood, starring in films including “Halloween” that began in 1978, along with other notable projects like “Trading Places,” “My Girl,” “True Lies,” and “Knives Out.” But it was her performance in “Everything Everywhere at Once” that eventually landed her in the Oscars record books.
Last month, Curtis won the SAG Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She beat Angela Bassett, Kerry Condon, Hong Zhao and Stephanie Hsu in the category.
