Luck is on our side, as we present a bevy of new Gold-star shows and movies to watch this weekend NetflixAnd Apple TV PlusHulu and other top broadcast services.
At the top of my weekend watch list is Ted lasso season 3, which brings back the feel-good comedy after a long hiatus. Ted is as slick and sunny as ever, though dark clouds loom over his former assistant’s bouncing and tumbling figure.
Also returns after some time away Shadow and bone season 2, the fantasy series based on the Grishaverse books. Sun Summoner Alina Starkov must find a way to defeat the evil Darkling and eliminate the deadly Shadow Fold.
As far as the new series goes, Bob Odenkirk returns to the storied land of AMC as eccentric Professor Lucky Hank, while an all-star cast tackles the horrors of climate change in Extrapolation. Also, Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon team up to expose the Boston Strangler, in one of the The best new movies to watch online this week.
Here’s our guide to what to watch this weekend.
Ted Lasso Season 3 (Apple TV Plus)
Although it’s been nearly 300 years since Ted Laso (Jason Sudeikis) celebrated Richmond’s promotion to the Premier League, it’s been just under a year and a half. Druidlander, this is not so. That gulf seems wider mostly because the show stalled with two major developments: a shocking heel turn by Nate (Nick Muhammad) and a troubling relationship between Roy (Brett Goldstein) and Kelly (Juno Temple).
The third season begins a few months later, at the beginning of the new season. Both stories get updates, but the main arc is the team’s performance. Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) worries about being relegated as her former club, now managed by Nick, battle it out at the top of the table. As for Ted, he is as optimistic as ever, but begins to question why he is still in England. It appears to be a setup for an inevitable series finale.

Lucky Hank (AMC)
Better Call Saul left a huge hole in the TV landscape (and our hearts) when it ended last year, but perhaps a worthy consolation will be Bob Odenkirk’s new drama. Based on the novel The Straight Man by Richard Russo, the story focuses on William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. (Odenkirk), the head of the English department at the fictional Railton College.
Angry Hank, who describes himself as “difficult,” is going through something of a midlife crisis. He constantly finds himself embroiled in troublesome situations, from an encounter with an aggressive goose to a general call for disparaging students. Meanwhile, his wife (Mireille Enos) wants to move in — with or without him.

Boston Strangler (Hulu)
The latest true crime drama goes old school to cover a series of murders in the early 1960s committed by a notorious killer named the Boston Strangler. This name came from newspaper articles written by two American Standard journalists, whose work takes center stage in the film.
Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley) is the first person to link the murders of the local women, but she must overcome the skepticism of her editors. Fellow journalist Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) joins her cause and together they challenge sexism and take personal risks to pursue the investigation.

Eight interwoven stories explore the shocking and catastrophic effects of climate change on the world in the near future, in the years 2037 to 2070.
Perspectives range from a technical trillionaire (Kit Harington) with a patent that could save the life of a dying grandmother (Meryl Streep) to an earnest rabbi (David Diggs). Swarm (Prime Video)
Created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabbers, this horror series is inspired by Stan culture – specifically Beyoncé Stan (or Beyhive). Dre (Dominic Fishback) is obsessed with a fictional pop star named Ni’Jah, whose fans are known as Swarm.
When tragedy strikes, Dre’s devotion takes a dark turn. She embarks on a cross-country mission to show how much she believes in her idol. Its course is no less bloody or violent than any religious war in history. The result is a disturbing, but also brutally sarcastic, stance on the dangers of any personality cult.
