Next James Bond casts quirky comedy star M’| Movies | entertainment

The next James Bond movie hasn’t been given a title yet, but it looks like cast members are starting to show up. A new report has revealed that a British actress is “in talks” to join the first film after Daniel Craig’s latest 007 film, No Time to Die, as M, the super spy boss.

The actress in question is Daisy May Cooper, the 36-year-old comedian who is best known for playing Kerry McCullough in the BBC series she co-wrote and co-created, This Country.

according to the sun, Cooper is set to be the first actress to take on the role of M after Judi Dench hung up her suits in 2012 following the character’s death in Skyfall. After M’s death, Ralph Fiennes assumed command of MI5, where he remained until the end of Craig’s tenure.

The report claims that Bond bosses hope Cooper will bring a “comic and quirky edge” to the role, a key shift for a character traditionally considered to be very tough, earnest, and steadfast.

Those familiar with the publication reported that the “unlikely casting” came after Phoebe Waller-Bridge joined Craig’s fifth film, No Time To Die, as a script doctor. During that time, she reportedly wrote a few additional characters in the film, including Ana de Armas Paloma.

The British creators seem to be “close friends,” so it’s possible Waller-Bridge fought to have her join the series as a new take on the powerful character.

This could be the first in a long line of major changes to the James Bond franchise, with the report in question adding that the producers “feel the time is right for an overhaul” of the series.

“The production team was excited about the prospect of taking the M in a different direction,” a source said after talks with Waller-Bridge and Cooper began.

The source added, “With Daniel leaving, it seemed time to start looking at changes across the board and the dynamic between Bond and M at the heart of the films.”

They went on to say that this would make the film “a little lighter and more comical going forward”.

He concluded by saying that this would “of course” affect the direction the new 007 takes.

While M was chosen, the next James Bond actor remains a complete mystery. Bond bosses have previously said they won’t reveal who will replace Daniel Craig for some time, but Bond’s prospects change every day.

At the moment, the Bond favorite at odds with Ladbrokes is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has an astonishing 5/2 to become the champion. He claimed these incredible odds once rumors surfaced online that he had already auditioned to play the character behind the scenes.

However, he was joined by some acting giants, including Tom Hardy, who took 9/1.

Taylor-Johnson also has to face off against former Superman actor Henry Cavill, who also has a 5/2, and Reggie Jean Page, who has an 8/1.
