Pasadena homebreak: Exotic birds valued at over $7,000 still missing after owner’s home burglary

Pasadena, Texas (KTRK) – A Pasadena woman makes a desperate plea for the return of her three beloved macaws during a home robbery Monday.

Pasadena police said the accused thief, Sammy Frank Pena, was arrested. Four birds have been recovered, but three are still missing.

“I miss three of our family. This is kidnapping for me,” said Chelsea Leader, the bird’s owner.

Leader asks for the public’s help in finding them.

“It’s heartbreaking. The only thing I can ask[is]if you know where my birds are, please, please bring them home. They are not my pets, they are my family,” Leider said.

Leader told ABC13 that she woke up Monday morning to find the Pasadena home she shared with her boyfriend had been broken into. The parrots that were in the garage were taken first.

She left for a short while, and when she returned, she said that a car had been returned to the driveway. I tried to stop the driver, but he took off.

Leader called the Pasadena police, who managed to catch up to the car. Pina, 29, was arrested and has now been charged with burglary and possession of a controlled substance.

“As soon as the police and I opened the trunk, they flew at me and were terrified,” Lederer explained.

Three of the birds were in the trunk. The fourth was in the back seat, and Lederer feared the whereabouts of the others.

“It’s sad to imagine a pet somewhere in a cardboard box or some horrible place surrounded by bad people. I want them home safe,” she said.

She wants to be aware of pet stores and potential buyers. Leader says the missing birds are worth more than $7,000 but they are priceless to her.
