Keanu Reeves has already wrapped the fifth film in the John Wick franchise Movies | entertainment

Warning: Spoiler for John Wick: Chapter 4 onwards. It’s been four years of waiting, but John Wick: Chapter 4 has finally arrived in cinemas. After nearly three hours of relentless action, fans weren’t ready for that incredible finale.

John Wick is dead. Well, at least it seems it is. After defeating Marquis Vincent de Gramont in their Parisian duel, Keanu Reeves’ murderer would die of his wounds while gasping out his late wife’s name, “Helen.” The scene then cuts to his grave next to hers, as the Bowery King and Winston look on. However, we didn’t actually see him die, or a body, so the ending is definitely an ambiguous one.

Currently, the titular four-film star and director Chad Stahelski are both finished, but they’re definitely open to John Wick: Chapter 5 in which the man-killer will presumably be “resurrected.” However, even before that, we haven’t seen the end of Reeves as John Wick since he’s already wrapped up the next movie in the hit action franchise.

The fifth film in the John Wick film franchise is a spin-off prequel called Ballerina, which takes place during the six-month period between John Wick chapters 3 and 4. A vengeful killer previously portrayed by Unity Phelan in Chapter 3.

Joining her in the cast are reprising their roles, Ian McShane’s Winston, and Anjelica Huston The Director, but also two characters who presumably died from season 4. One being Reeves’ Wick and even the late Lance Reddick’s Charon. The latter actor died suddenly last week while promoting John Wick: Chapter 4 and although his character was killed off at the start of the new movie, he has completed portraying his role in the spin-off as well.

Ballerina, which follows Rooney in pursuit of her family’s killers, began filming in November of last year and has been in post-production since February 2023. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, though we’re guessing it will arrive about a year from now. It’s also unclear if Reeves has a big role in the movie, or if he just makes a cameo as Wick.

Underworld franchise and Die Hard 4 director Len Wiseman helms the spin-off, which is being written by John Wick Chapter 3 and fourth writer Shay Hutton. He is joined on screenwriting duties by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell, who wrote and directed the revenge thriller He Dates the Younger Woman. Armas asked for her input on the script.
