Setting up the fingerprint sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S23 is a very important security measure that you are actually required to do while setting up your new phone. And it makes sense that Samsung would be so eager to take advantage of the Galaxy S23’s biometric features. With your fingerprint saved on the Galaxy S23, you can use the screen sensor to unlock your phone. Your fingerprint can also authenticate the purchases you make on your smartphone.
If you skipped setting up the fingerprint sensor when you first got the Galaxy S23, don’t worry. It’s easy to go back and set up the fingerprint sensor later. You can also add up to four fingerprints to give yourself more flexibility to unlock your Galaxy S23.
In this how-to, we’ll walk you through how to set up the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S23 so you can keep the personal information stored on your phone safe and secure.
How to set up the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S23
Note: We used the Samsung Galaxy S23 in this tutorial on how to set up the fingerprint sensor on new Samsung flagships, but the same process works if you have Galaxy S23 Plus or Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Before proceeding, if you plan to use a Galaxy S23 screen protector, make sure that it is compatible with your phone’s screen reader. If you assigned your fingerprint before applying the screen protector, you may have to re-register that finger.
1. Go to Security, then Privacy
Launch the Settings app And on the main screen, Click Security & Privacy.
2. Select Biometrics, then Fingerprints
Once you are in the Security & Privacy settings screen, Select Biometrics. then Click Fingerprints. (From this screen, you can also set up facial recognition on your Galaxy S23, but that’s the how-to for another time.)
3. Set a secure screen lock
If this is the first time you are registering your fingerprint on the Galaxy S23 and you have not yet set a secure lock screen, the Galaxy S23 will prompt you to do so. Choose your PIN, password or pattern As a backup method to unlock your phone.
For this how-to, I chose the PIN. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen And Enter the specified PIN twice to confirm. From there, you can proceed to setting up the fingerprint sensor.
4. Record your fingerprint.
Click on Record And Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to register your fingerprint. You will be asked Tap your finger on the screen repeatedly So your phone will fully recognize your fingerprint. The ratio reader will show your progress.
5. Add another fingerprint or quit
Once you have registered 100% of your fingerprint, you will be given an option Add another fingerprint or Let the phone know you’re done. If you choose to add another one, you will repeat step 4.
6. Remove the fingerprint
If you decide to remove a fingerprint later, Go to the Biometrics screen In step 2 f Click on Fingerprints. Select the fingerprint you want to remove click then Select Remove in the upper right corner. You can also modify the name of the saved fingerprint from this screen.
