Disney invites you to the prom with their new Prom Pact

Los Angeles — Ditch your tux and find that perfect dress. Prom season is upon us and Disney is inviting you to the Prom Charter.

It stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Mandy Yang, a senior who tries to avoid high school cultural things like prom and Milo Mannheim as Ben, Mandy’s boyfriend who actually wants to be more involved with that high school. They make a pact to go together as friends.

Meanwhile, Mandy is waitlisted at her ultimate dream school, Harvard. She hatches a plot to befriend the most popular boy in school, played by Blake Draper, whose politician father is a Harvard graduate, so that the father can write her a letter of recommendation. We won’t spoil it for you, but right off the bat and lessons are learned, including the universal themes of not letting life pass you by and not judging someone before you really get to know them.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee told On The Red Carpet, “This is exactly the kind of project I would love to do, something that has strong female characters and something that really celebrates the complexities of life and growing up and all the things that can be and can be like.” It just adds more to it.”

Did we mention that Prom is the ’80s?

Executive Producer Julie Bowen said they leaned into the theme and took inspiration from John Hughes films from the 1980s that we all know and love, even those that might be a bit of a problem today.

“Everyone loves all those old movies and they make us feel great,” Bowen said. “If you look at them too closely, they don’t bring you a great feeling, so we decided to take that a little head-on and then embrace what we loved about those movies, which is the feeling of friendship and love and the importance of high school, being seen as a teenager as a real person. And that’s what John Hughes did it so beautifully, he saw the teens as real people.”

Blake Draper said he hopes people get a closer look at popular jock character Graham.

“There’s more to being Mr. Popular or, you know, playing basketball,” Draper said. “I tried to understand that and hopefully it resonates with people.”

Milo Mannheim told us his character Ben really helped him hone the lessons of the film. “The reason I love him so much is because he reminded me of that. He reminded me that I’m doing exactly what I want to do with my life, I’m having a great time. My life is full of people who love me and I love them. And I have to stop letting each day pass me by and really focus on the present and enjoying in everything. “

Wendy McClendon-Covey said, “You only get to your senior year once and you’ll really regret not having fun when you’re a teenager, which is the time to have fun.”

Prom Pact is now streaming on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney+ and this ABC station.
