Dodgers proposal fails: A couple have their private moment thwarted by security

Los Angeles — It was a difficult marriage proposal that went very wrong.

A man ran onto the field at Dodger Stadium during the first game of the season Thursday night and ended up being caught by security as he got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend.

Countless videos are going viral at the moment, and Eyewitness News caught up with the couple, Stephanie Gutierrez and Ricardo Juarez, to talk about it.

“I think I was very shocked. I couldn’t believe it,” Gutierrez said of the proposal.

She and her friends had no idea what her boyfriend was going to do, until he did.

“We were so close to the field that he thought it was very easy to jump in and do it,” Gutierrez said.

Juarez says he was initially applying in the stands, but excitement and some liquid courage took over. He was ready to tell the world about his girlfriend and the mother of his young son.

Juarez, the sushi chef, told Eyewitness News that he did it so everyone could see that he loved his partner.

After the epic fiasco, he was removed from the stadium by security. He was picked up by the Los Angeles Police Department and later released.

Juarez was later given another chance that night to propose in front of a much smaller audience.

“She was on Sunset Boulevard next to Motel 8,” Gutierrez said, laughing.

The picture shows Gutierrez and Juarez smiling as she shows the engagement ring on her finger.

“He says it hurts a little bit, but I think he will feel it tomorrow,” Gutierrez said. “He doesn’t care, he’s like, ‘I’ll do it again.'”

For Juarez, it proves that sometimes love hurts.

A Dodgers spokesperson said the team’s front office had no comment on the proposal or the remedy. Juarez is banned from Dodgers games for at least a year.
