Next year’s Samsung Galaxy S24 models could be in line with a performance boost, and it’s not just the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset likely to power the future flagship. Instead, a new rumor claims that the three potential Galaxy S24 models will get a significant memory boost — a move that should improve multitasking on Samsung’s top phones.
Specifically, the leaker Tauran Vats has taken to Twitter (Opens in a new tab) To claim that both the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus are ready to feature 12GB of RAM, when they ship next year. This is the amount of memory Samsung currently includes in some versions of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
As for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it’s clearly going to see more memory as well, with Tauran Vats flipping this premium model around to offer 16GB of RAM.

The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus both come with 8GB of RAM. There’s also an 8GB Galaxy S23 Ultra model with 256GB of storage, but other configurations come with 12GB of RAM. In other words, the rumored Galaxy S24 specs will be a significant upgrade in memory for Samsung phones.
That wouldn’t necessarily help the Galaxy S24 bridge the performance gap with Apple phones, which are powered by Apple-designed A Series silicon. But it will make switching between open apps faster on a Samsung phone; It will also increase the loading times of apps and games on the Galaxy S24.
Before you hit the cork to celebrate this RAM gain, keep in mind that this is an unsourced rumor. And while Tauran Vats certainly seem to be interested in smartphone joints, they don’t have much of a proven track record when it comes to accurately predicting what will happen with future devices. In other words, the Galaxy S24 rumor could be out, or there could be a lot of hot air — we simply won’t know until next year when the phones are likely to ship. And unless later rumors support the claim of more memory, we’ll have to keep this prediction in the “nice if it happens” column.
Galaxy S24 storage upgrade too?
Turan Vats’ tweet covers more than just a memory. The leaker also expects 256GB of storage on the base models of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. In the case of the Plus, it’s no change from this year’s model, with Samsung including 256GB in its entry-level Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra phones. However, it would be a step up for the entry-level Galaxy S model, as the Galaxy S23 continues to start with 128GB of storage in the $799 version.
While it may seem early to start considering the Galaxy S24, Samsung will likely be working hard on developing a phone next year. Rumors are scarce at this point, but we expect to see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all flagship models next year. Some leakers are also tipping the Galaxy S24 Ultra to display a screen with a 144Hz refresh rate.
