WrestleMania 39 featured Brood Edge where Demon faced Finn Balor, and ended up winning after a brutal Hell in a Cell match. Some were expecting Edge to be by his side when he came out, as there were reportedly talks about that along with the fact that WWE brought in Gangrel for WrestleMania 39 this weekend. It did not happen in the end, and in an interview on Reffin’ It Up with Brian HebnerOn the Exclaim!, Gangrel was asked if WWE had spoken to him about appearing. It turns out that never happened, but he did talk to Edge about the story once she started building up her strength.
They might have discussed it, but my phone never rang. I started reading all the things, and people were calling me, so I wrote Adam [Edge], “Did you know this started?” He jokes, “These writers think they know it all.” Gangrel laughed. “I tried to tell a guy to tell them, ‘No, I didn’t,’ but he still ran the story anyway.”
“He said, ‘To be fair, it was pitched, it never happened.’ It was pitched, but I’ve never heard of it,” Gangrel said. “I didn’t know about it. They never reached out to me. I think Edge is always offering me something. I think I offered SummerSlam for me, but it was dropped.”
Gangrel may return at another event later this year, though it now remains to be seen what Edge will be next, as he appears to have ended his feud with Balor at WrestleMania 39. More than just an Edge vs Balor match, including the End of Night match 2, which featured Roman Reigns retaining his title by defeating Cody Rhodes. In an interview with BT Sport’s Ariel Helwani, Paul Heyman talked about the reaction to Reigns winning, and he liked that everyone assumed Reigns would lose.
“I like the fact that everyone walks in now thinking this is their last title defense. I’ve experienced this before, it was something I had a hand in ending, Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania. Every year, I was sitting there going, ‘Oh. , This is it. During the match, the crowd was anticipating and drooling, and this is the moment they witness the historic three-count on The Undertaker at which the streak ends,” Heyman said.
Then, when Undertaker would defend the streak, they’d say, ‘I don’t want to see this end, I can’t wait until the next chapter.'” And then it finally came to an end, and the audience was shocked, and they thought they were going to see it, and they thought they were going to see it, but they didn’t.”
