Word is that the Google Pixel Fold could launch at Google I/O 2023 on May 10, and it will see Google finally extract all the details about its elusive foldable smartphone. But it’s nearly impossible for Google’s phone division to prevent major leaks, explains the latest news from FrontPageTech. John Bowser (Opens in a new tab): A report detailing everything related to the Google Pixel Fold.
The first is the price of the Pixel Fold. The exact number has been up for debate recently, as previous reports suggested that it could reduce the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 by a significant amount. Recently, however, Prosser claimed we’re looking at the $1,799 price.
Prosser confirmed that this price tag is correct, claiming that the 256GB Pixel Fold will actually cost $1,799 — and will be available in chalk and obsidian crayons. However, he also claims a 512GB model is on the way, available only in Volcano, which will cost $1,919.
Google Pixel Fold – Key hardware specifications
The Pixel Fold’s external display will reportedly be 5.8 inches, with an FHD+ OLED panel and a 17:4:9 aspect ratio. The refresh rate is said to be a “smooth display” of 120Hz, though it’s not clear if the screen is unlocked. at 120 Hz or whether there is an adaptive refresh rate. The latter will be very beneficial for the battery.
The display inside is a 7.6-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2208 x 1840 and the same 120Hz “Smooth Display”. This packs an aspect ratio of 6:5. Prosser claims that the screen is protected by an ultra-thin layer of glass with a protective plastic.
It’s rumored that Google plans to market the Pixel Fold as having a battery life “beyond 24 hours” and that it can last up to 72 hours in Extreme Battery Saver Mode. Other hardware specs include 12GB of DDR5 RAM, the same Tensor G2 chipset as the Google Pixel 7 lineup and the Titan M2 security chip that comes along for the ride.
The rear camera matrix has a Pixel 7-inspired design, with a band and cutouts for the three lenses. This includes a 48MP (f/1.7) main lens, a 10.8MP (f/2.2) ultrawide camera with a 121.2-degree field of view, and finally a 10.8MP (f/3.05) telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and up to 20x HD zoom. . Video recording capabilities include 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps.
The selfie camera on the cover display is a punch-hole design, with a 9.5 MP (f/2.2) lens. There is a second selfie camera on the inner screen within the frame and it offers a resolution of 8 MP (f/2.0). The rear matrix also features a laser autofocus sensor, as well as optical and electronic image stabilization. Google is also expected to highlight how fast the camera can be launched, in case you’re into that sort of thing.
Features claimed to be coming to the phone include a “rear camera selfie”, which will likely combine the rear camera and cover screen, along with some previously released features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Long Exposure, and Real Tone.
There also appears to be a fingerprint scanner in the power button and face unlock. The device itself is said to weigh 10 ounces and will measure 5.5″ x 3.1″ x 0.5″ when folded.
Google Pixel Fold – Pre-orders and Availability
Prosser also confirmed speculation that the Pixel Fold will launch at Google I/O 2023, but noted that Google may have a teaser planned for April 26th. Pre-orders will obviously open immediately on the Google Store after Google I/O, but anyone hoping to purchase through the carrier will have to wait until May 30th. As claimed by Prosser before, the phone itself will be launched on June 27.
According to the leak, anyone who orders a Pixel Fold will also get a free Google Pixel Watch. Prosser wasn’t clear if this will be a pre-order bonus or just something you get for buying the foldable device, but either way, it’s a great deal. It’s much better than offering another pair of Google Pixel Buds, either way.
Google I/O 2023 is scheduled for May 10th at 1PM ET, and we hope we find out how much of this information is actually correct. In the meantime, we’ll keep you posted on any other news that pops up about the Pixel Fold.
